The History of Creative Canavas
Creative Canvas was opened in 1984 by Pat and Beverly Costello.
Pat grew up around boats in south Florida, having built his first
boat at age nine. He went on to become a Mercury mechanic,
working for Layson Marine in Homestead, Florida. In 1980,
Pat moved to Orlando and went to work for Boat Tree as service manager.
Before long he got the urge to create. Pat and his wife, Beverly,
began Creative Canvas as a small, custom marine canvas company.
The business began as a completely mobile operation. At
the age of fifteen, Pats son Jason became interested in learning
the family business. Before long, Jason was second in command,
running his own mobile truck. As the company grew, more and
more boat dealerships began contracting Creative Canvas to manufacture
canvas for their customers. This was the beginning of a solid foundation
for both wholesale and retail business.
In addition to the father/son operation, Pats daughter Dawn joined
in at the age of eighteen. She's gone from being an all around
gopher to one of the main seamstresses. Also helping out during
the busy season is Beverly's father Ernie McPeak. That's
three generations and working on a fourth. At nine years old,
Pat and Beverly's grandson Jordon is anxious to become a part of
the team. This family atmosphere allows for a fun work environment
and a company loyalty that's hard to beat. And this loyalty
extends to all customers, from the largest dealership to the small
family with their first boat.
